This wide-ranging work was part of the housing reconstruction programme on the Island of Faial, following the earthquake of 9 July 1998. The various contract jobs that made up this project were divided into parishes, AFAVIAS works covering the parishes of Angústias, Matriz and Conceição (in the city of Horta), Flamengos and Ribeirinha. The projects, individually adapted for each dwelling, were for small repairs, remodelling or new construction.
